How to change your home without changing a lot

30th Sep 2016

Whether you’re a have a go DIY attempter or an interior design queen, the most frustrating part of redecorating your home is often how quickly it can look old and out of style. Just like the clothes we wear, what’s fashionable in our homes can change as often as the weather throughout the year. But if you’ve just spent hundreds of pounds redecorating your room then don’t despair, that time and money hasn’t been wasted. Here are a few top tips of how to bring your home up to date without changing too much.

When it comes to what part of the bedroom is the most important, the clue really is in the name. The bed is the biggest part of any bedroom, and will normally sit in the centre of the room, taking up most of the floor space and is the first thing you see when walking into the room. If your bed looks dated then unfortunately there’s no hiding it, it’s going to date the room no matter what else you change. Luckily buying a bed couldn’t be easier, as there’s a wide range of beds available online from websites like Bedstar which are affordable and easy to have delivered. The site also has a wide range of divan bases, which are ideal if you already have a mattress and just want to change what it sits upon. A divan base is also a great investment as it is extremely versatile. They can be easily moved from room to room, and if you want to change the colour of your room you can just cover it with a sheet or a throw and transform the way your divan base looks.

With other rooms it can be a lot harder to pinpoint what needs to change to bring it up to date. If you’re kitchen is starting to feel old then don’t feel like you have to rip it all out and start again. By changing the cupboard and draw fronts you can make your kitchen look brand new with a few hours of easy labour. If you have wooden cupboard fronts, the best way to transform them is to give them a quick clean and sand and then paint then with chalk paint. The great thing about chalk paint is that it goes straight onto any material, it’s durable and is also very stylish at the moment. If that sounds like too much hard work, then just changing the handles could make your kitchen look brand new. Often you just need a screwdriver and a bit of patience to make you kitchen look 10 years younger.

In your bathroom, the biggest thing that can make your bathroom look aged is dirt. When it comes to bathroom fashion, white never really goes out style. So if the seals around your sink and bath are starting to look grayer or even green, pick up some sealant remover and redo the seals. This won’t only make your cleaner, it’ll make it look like it’s just been fitted.
